Stretch is not there.
Watched Todd Haynes’s I’m Not There a while ago and was astounded to find that I don’t actually hate Bob Dylan. Now I know there are a lot of Bob Dylan fans who think he’s more important than he is, but there’s also a lot of people who think that he sounds like a condenser dryer nearing the end of its life. Who’s right? I don’t know.
The movie is visually stunning and has great performances but the whole time it feels like you’re being witness to a biopic of a visionary, almost mythical man. Dylan isn’t or wasn’t. Stretch loves some of his songs but hates most of them. Dylan fans are very psychotic about him and his impact on the world, but realistically it’s the same type of love that skanky Britney Spears fans show her. Maybe I’m being too harsh.
Well done to Haynes for his hero worship movie. I am aware it is an interesting piece of experimental cinema, for I HAVE seen other films and stuff. It’s a nice movie and maybe in I’m Not There 2, Hillary Duff can bring her unique acting skills and vision to the great man. Awwwwww, isn’t she so righteous! I also hate Elvis, Jim Morrison, Betty Boo, Tara Reid, Yngwie Malmsteen and Shabba Ranks (But Shabba hates me too, he said so in a letter. Fuck you Shabba). A lot of hate left to give. A lot.
